Blue Marble Energy provides a clean energy solution which combat the following global problems:

• Climate Change

  Global warming is the most serious threat to our environment, our health and our economy. The most recent scientific studies show that global warming is occurring at an alarming rate and is already causing environmental changes that will have significant economic and social impacts that are described as “catastrophic”. We are near critical tipping points of ecological devastation that must be reversed.

  The oceans have been getting warmer. Worldwide, algae blooms have grown abnormally large as a result of marine pollution and high levels of dissolved carbon dioxide.

• Energy and Food

  The renewable energy boom has centered on corn and soybeans for bio-fuel producers across America. Unfortunately, the concept of food-to-energy is unsustainable. Skyrocketing food prices, driven by increasing competition for raw foodstuffs, have a global and deepening impact on the poor. The United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization has called for a moratorium on food-to-energy. The argument can be summed up with single, startling statistic:

  The amount of corn it takes to fill a gas tank has enough calories to feed a person for an entire year.

  This food crisis, coupled with the climate crisis, forces an equally unacceptable choice: dirty fuel or hungry people. Algae offers a unique solution: it grows much faster than terrestrial crops, consumes more carbon dioxide, and does not take food off the table of the world's poor.

• Marine Pollution

  For centuries, humans have used the oceans as limitless dumping grounds. We now know that this devastates marine ecosystems and has pushed many species to the brink of extinction. Human impacts, coupled with high levels of dissolved carbon dioxide, have created a new crisis: algae blooms.

  These blooms are the direct result of unchecked human runoff and the dumping of manure and fertilizers into watersheds that eventually find their way to the world's water ecosystems.
